We decided to stay in Minden, Louisiana tonight just off I-20. Colleen was able to watch the latest episode of Survivor after I disconnected the DirecTV box and brought her laptop in.
We crossed the Continental Divide Wednesday at 10:49am MDT.
Staying at the Hampton Inn in Lordsburg, NM, off I-10 for the night, about 22 miles in. Picked up dinner at Denny’s. Katniss spent about a quarter of the day meowing for pets, and the rest sleeping or just looking out the window.
The Julian Hinds Pumping Plant is one of five major pumping plants along the Colorado River Aqueduct. It has the highest lift of all of the plants, 441 feet to an elevation of 1807 feet. The water then flows west by gravity to Lake Matthews, at a speed of 3 to 6 miles per hour. The Colorado River Aqueduct is one of the three major aqueducts that bring imported water to Southern California.https://www.victaulic.com/projects/julian-hinds-pumping-station/
There’s a large wind farm on both sides of I-10 in Palm Springs. Great view of Mount San Jacinto’s escarpment as well.
We slept for about 12 hours. Stopped at the gas station next to the hotel and topped up. Jacob took some time to admire his parking job as well.
Due to finishing up packing a U haul UBox we rented at the last minute, and needing to empty the water tank in the trailer, we left a little later than we wanted to. We drove a couple hours and stopped in Moreno Valley to eat an early dinner and sleep for a while as we only had about 12 hours in the past 72.
